Systems Engineer

Position Profile
The Systems Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, managing, and repairing of application, file print, and email servers along with virtualization, storage area networks, backup and recovery, and SQL/database servers. The position provides recommendations on the sizing and configuration of the server environment that is on-site or cloud and a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, and installation tasks to meet client requirements.

The key position results required:
1. Ensures client projects, routine maintenance, and/or service requests are completed as defined by the scope of the service based on BlackInk IT processes and clearly communicates options to clients when outside client agreement or requires an outage or risk to data. System Engineering design, diagnosis, repair, or installations include:
     • Windows, SharePoint, Exchange, MS 365, and SQL servers
     • Virtualization – Vmware
     • Storage Area Networks
     • Patch Management, anti-malware, and backup and disaster recover technology such as Symantec, CA and StorageCraft
2. Works in a team environment with service dispatcher and/or support representative too efficiently and effectively diagnose, installs, and/or performs repairs as a tier 2-4 level tasks that achieve high satisfaction levels from client by working either on-site or remote.
3. Demonstrates creativity in developing ways to increase the service level to customers while decreasing risk and costs to BlackInk IT.
4. Enables faster problem diagnosis and resolution for future similar problems by documenting symptoms reported and final solution that resolved the root cause of the problem so details can be searched and easily retrieved in the BlackInk IT knowledge system. Fully documents all required information in BlackInk IT request system.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Perform network engineering tasks as directed by your supervisor including but not limited to:
     • Completing knowledge system documentation regarding IT methodologies, procedures and assets.
     • Assists in training support staff on new and improved ways to deliver services
     • Setup and maintain monitoring services for servers and peripheral devices.
     • Assist in researching new vendors, technologies, or new releases / upgrades and makes recommendations on adoption timing, testing, etc.
     • Providing user adds, moves, and changes.
     • Client status report generation.
     • Perform all other tasks as assigned by management.


Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to achieve the key results and duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
     • Strong working knowledge of Windows server, Exchange, MS 365, SharePoint, SQL Server, VMware ESX 5.5-2.3, Storage Area Networks, Remote Desktop Servers, and Domain Controllers. Experience can be gained through a combination of the following:
        o Bachelor degree in related Information Technology field – recommended
        o MCSE, MCITP, and MCP – strongly recommended
        o A+, CCENT, CCNP, VCP are all plus
        o Minimum 4+ years in various roles that demonstrate advanced knowledge of network engineering design, installation, and support.
     • Familiar with Cloud services such as Azure and AWS
     • Strong knowledge of performance tuning techniques to ensure maximum performance.
     • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, WINS
     • Working experience with Disaster Recovery planning, implementation and testing 
     • Shows leadership in achieving results; especially when problems or projects have unexpected delays or issues and can keep stress levels down across team.
     • Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in new and better ways to implement, maintain and/or support customers environments.
     • Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manager, both written and verbal. Shows active listening, customer-care, and patience.
     • Technical diagnosis skills in complex and diverse technical environments. Strong understanding of support tools and techniques to get to root cause determination and plan and implement the appropriate solution.
     • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.
     • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast moving environment.
     • Professional and positive attitude; likes to work in team environment.
     • Data Protection focus; understands need to always be thinking about protection of information.
     • Interest, excitement and ability to stay current with changing trends in the information technology.


This work is performed: Primarily in the Indianapolis area.  Approximately 10% travel outside Indianapolis metro area, Dependable transportation is required. This position requires the ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
